Description
OAR is a versatile resource and task manager for HPC platforms, and other computing infrastructures. It is a European open source tool developed. OAR modular architecture makes it very flexible for integrating other tools or adding new scheduling policies.
Integration
OAR architecture is based on a database (PostgreSQL or MySQL), a script language (Perl) and an optional scalable administrative tool (e.g. Taktuk). It is composed of modules which interact mainly via the database and are executed as independent programs. Therefore, there is no API, the system interaction is completely defined by the database schema. This approach eases the development of specific modules.
Sophistication
In REGALE, OAR will be integrated with REGALE monitoring tools and will be extended with the necessary modules to make use of monitoring data. Sophisticated resource management techniques and scheduling algorithms will be integrated into OAR. Furthermore, to assist workflow engines, OAR will be enriched to support I/O directives and to provide resources better suited to I/O needs.
